DAMALIE Busingye turned in match winning performance as she led Jinja SS to the Pepsi Girls’ School Cricket week title in a highly entertaining final at the Lugogo Oval yesterday. It was their third national title, having won the first one in 2008.

Busingye, who was later voted the player-of-the tournament, opened the Jinja SS batting after winning the toss and electing to bat and she did not disappoint as she hit 42 runs.

Helped by Rachael Ntono (13), Jinja tormented Kololo’s bowling attack on their way to setting Kololo a target of 91 runs to win.

Rashida Kulusum (2/6) and Mary Nalule (2/22) were the pick of the bowlers for Koloko.

Kololo’s chase started off on the wrong note when opener Nalule departed for a duck off an extra delivery after the first ball was called a wide.

The chase took a turn for the worst after Saidat Kemigisha was run out off the fourth delivery of the same over.

From then on, it was a struggle for Kololo as batsmen Agnes Abigaba and Sadiq Shakira both perished for ducks.

Martha Akello (4), Patricia Mungyek (3), and Jolly Mirembe (03) top-scored for Kololo who benefitted from extras than runs scored off the bat.

Immaculate Nakisuyi finished with figures of 2/2 and Janet Mbabazi weighed in too with figures of 2/4 to complement a brilliant fielding display by Jinja .

Kololo were bowled out for a measly 34 runs to ensure the title went back across the Nile.

“It was a great team performance. Everyone did what they had to and we prayed as a team. The school also gave us enough time to concentrate,” said a jubilant Busingye after the game.
