Following the uproar countrywide of the proposed law to ban the miniskirt, incensed 'Kampalans' have vowed to save the sacred attire.

A popular hangout in Kamwokya - Iguana bar - will tonight host a 'Save the miniskirt' party which is expected to draw hundreds of revelers in protest of the damned law. Females who turn up in miniskirts are being promised free drinks, according to a posting on their facebook wall, Iguana bar Kampala.

The press, including the UK tabloid The Daily Mail, has recently been awash reports that a law to ban miniskirts in Uganda was in the offing. true

The Daily Mail wrote that Uganda "is rafting a draconian law that would bar skimpily dressed American singers like Beyoncé Knowles from appearing on its local TV channels."

However, Ethics and Integrity Minister, Rev. Simon Lokodo came out to vehemently clarify that the Anti-Pornography Bill 2011, which has been re-tabled in Parliament was not about miniskirts alone "as is being portrayed by sections of the press."

When asked to define what constitutes "pornography", Lokodo explained that the Bill seeks to repeal section 166 of the penal code Act which criminalises trading in obscene publications.

They also want "to equip the country with a better law to tackle the insidious social problem of pornography".

The Bill defines pornography as "Any cultural practice, form of behavior or form of communication or speech or information or literature or publication or news story or entertainment or stage play or broadcast or music or dance or art or graphic or picture or photography or video recording or leisure activity or show or exhibition that depicts;

A person engaged in explicit sexual activities or conduct, sexual parts of a person such as breasts, thighs, buttocks or genitalia, erotic behavior intended to cause sexual excitement or indecent act or behavior intended to corrupt morals is liable, under the law.
