Mukono arrests 11 over insecurity

Police in Mukono district have arrested eleven people suspected to have been behind a wave of insecurity.

Police in Mukono district have arrested eleven people suspected to have been behind a wave of insecurity in and around Mukono Municipality.


Police identified the suspects as; Edrisa Ssekirime alias Rasta, Daniel Lubowa, Ibra Lutaaya, Robert Mukalazi and Ivan Ssemanda. Others are; Vicent Kabeeba, Abdul Kabaale, Charles Mayanja, Daglas Ssekitto, Banabas Asiimwe and Sulaiman Ssekasi.

Mukono District Police boss, Alfred Bangambaki said that the arrested thugs had formed a group called Mukono Eleven in which they have been basing to terrorize the residents.

Bangambaki said that the group has got leaders who are at large and Police is still hunting for them.

“We laid an operation at Tuesday night and arrested these thugs. We found them with marijuana, iron bars, hammers and machetes which we suspect have been the instruments used during the robberies,” Bangambaki said.

He added that the group is going to be charged with being rogues and vagabonds. Bangambaki said some of the suspects arrested were habitual offenders who have been charged several times before.

“We have found that when these people are arrested and taken to Luzira, the security of the area stabilizes but after completing their sentences and released, they start from where they ended,” he noted.
