The Chairman of the Central Executive Committee (CEC) of NRM has called a meeting for members to be held on Sunday at State House, Entebbe.
The announcement was made by NRM publicist and Minister of Information and National Guidance, Mary Karooro Okurut.
CEC comprises of chairpersons of leagues and chairpersons of regions.
The meeting comes at a time when some NRM MPs were being sought for disciplinary action. There is also an impending National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
The party’s disciplinary committee recently concluded hearing evidence against MPs Muhammad Nsereko, Wilfred Niwagaba, Barnabas Tinkasiimire and Theodore Ssekikubo and referred the matter to the party top organ.
According to NRM Secretary General, Amama Mbabazi, the disciplinary committee evaluated evidence of indiscipline adduced against the recalcitrant legislators who repeatedly snubbed summons to defend themselves.
Sources indicated that the ‘Rebel MPs’ were charged under rule 4 of the NRM constitution which proscribes use of foul language, campaigning against official party flag bearers in elections, being an agent of foreign agents to the detriment of the party or country and willfully spreading malicious propaganda.
If found guilty, the four, face imminent dismissal from NRM.
However, the MPs have maintained that their party has no case against them, saying the disciplinary committee is being used to settle political scores.
Ssekikubo, in particular has said Mbabazi is behind what he has described as “political vendetta” since he (Ssekikubo) has been key in exposing alleged corruption acts in which he claims Mbabazi has been named.
Niwagaba and Ssekikubo also failed in their bid to slap a temporary injunction barring their party’s disciplinary committee from proceeding with cases against them.
Vicent Kyamadidi was also initially charged together with the ‘rebel MPs’ but he quickly ate humble pie and appeared before the disciplinary committee.
