A 26-year-old man in Budaka district was on Monday charged with defilement of his five-year-old niece.

Mutahibu Amuza Musenero is suspected to have defiled the girl on March 29, this year in Irabi village in Budaka.

He appeared before Magistrate Grade One of Budaka Paul Wankwasi and charges of aggravated defilement were read to him. Wankwasi did not allow him to enter any plea as the nature of the charge could only be tried by the High Court.

Musenero was remanded to Budaka government prison, pending committal to High Court for trial.

Prosecution led by Budaka Resident State Attorney, Joan Keko, told court that a medical report confirming that the minor was defiled will be part of the evidence against the suspect.

The medical report prepared by the eastern regional Police surgeon Dr. Barnabas Rubanza indicated that the victim was defiled and sustained extensive cuts in the genitals that warranted stitching.

The victim is still on medical treatment.
