65 companies recognized for role in socio-economic transformation

KAMPALA - A total of 65 organizations and over 20 high profile personalities in the country have been recognized for their outstanding performance towards the socio-economic transformation of Uganda.

They were given awards – bestowed by the minister of general duties in the Office of Prime Minister, Prof. Tarsis Kabwegere – in a colourful ceremony at Kampala Serena Hotel.

The awards were presented according to organizations’ outstanding contribution in the sectors of water, health, education, energy and agriculture.

The outstanding individuals were awarded according to their significant leadership skills.

In the health sector category, recipients included Marie Stopes, National Drug Authority, Uganda Health Marketing Group and Uganda Blood Transfusion Service.

And for the agriculture sector: Sameer Agriculture and Livestock, Vegetable Oil Development Project, SNV Netherlands Devlopment Organisation, Kyagulanyi Coffee and Bukalasa Agricultural College.

The National Water Sewerage Corporation (NWSC) was awarded under the water catergory.

The recipients of the energy awards were Rural Electrification Agency, CNOOC Uganda and Uganda Electricity Transmission Company.

In the transport and construction sectors the organizations that were awarded included Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), Turkish Airlines, SBI International and Collin Construction Company.

Uganda College of Commerce Pakwach and St. Lawrence University scooped the education awards.

Among those recognized in the individual category included Police chief Gen.  Kale Kayihura, Bank of Uganda Governor Emmanuel Mutebile, Uganda Human Commission commissioner, Gordon Mwesigye, energy permanent secretary Kabagambe Kalisa, NWSC managing director Dr. Silver Mugisha, and others.
