Muslims in Masaka district have advised their Members of Parliament not to dare step in any mosque to talk about the Marriage and Divorce Bill or risk being thrown out.

The Masaka Main Mosque Imam Sheik Jamil Mbuga who was flanked by the district Kadhi, Sheik Swaibu Ndugga, said they had come to a resolution to reject any MP or leader trying to talk about the Bill.

“We have heard some of them making arrangements to talk to Muslims during Juma prayers and teach them about the Marriage and Divorce Bill, but they should be prepared to face any embarrassment that befalls them,” Mbuga said.

He was addressing Muslims who turned up for prayers at Masaka Main Mosque on Tuesday.

Mbuga added that the decision had been made by all Imams and instructions dispatched to all mosques in the district.

He noted that Muslim women were all content with the Sharia law which allows their husbands to marry up to four wives, adding that the MPs were wasting people’s time by teaching about the Bill.

“The Sharia is very clear on what guidelines a man should follow before getting a wife and the duties of a parent in sending off a daughter to marriage. We shall stick to those and no one should think that we shall change,” Mbuga said.

He added that giving audience to anyone talking about the Bill would be directly abusing Allah’s rules and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad.

He said according to Islam, women were gardens of their husbands and wondered how Muslims would respect a secular law that gives a woman the mandate to deny her husband sex.

Mbuga asked the Muslims to be keen while choosing wives and avoid those who would drag them to court under this law if it is passed.
