KAMPALA - The Police in Kampala have arrested the laboratory technician of Makerere University Hospital for allegedly attempting to rape a student who had gone for medical examination.

Gonzaga Mutagobya is accused of attempting to rape a female student of Makerere University on Monday when she had gone to seek medical help.

According to Wandegeya Police investigations boss Simon Apidra Ashaba, on the fateful day, the victim had gone to the hospital for a medical examination.

“The doctor referred the victim to the suspect so that he could extract her vaginal fluids. However, in the examination room, the suspect reportedly locked the room, ordered the victim to undress and lie on her back,” Apidra said.

He added that in a ‘bid’ to obtain the fluids, Mutagobya also fondled the student’s private parts among other nasty acts.

The student later reported the case to the Police who arrested him. He is currently detained at Wandegeya Police Station.

Meanwhile, in another development, government is to provide Hepatitis B vaccines for the whole country, health minister Dr. Christine Ondoa has said.

She said the disease is posing concern nationwide, with about 10% of the people suffering from chronic Hepatitis B.

The minister was responding to requests for government intervention raised by Ngora MPs Jaqueline Amongi and Dr. Francis Epetait concerning the spread of the disease in the district and the whole of Teso sub-region.
