ULTA elections: April 20th

ARTHUR Ssegawa, a candidate for the Uganda Lawn Tennis Association (ULTA) chairmanship, has petitioned National Council of Sports (NCS) over the current executive committee’s prolonged stay in office.

The businessman delivered the petition along with some clubs, to NCS general secretary Jasper Aligawesa at Lugogo yesterday.

Aligawesa promised to work on the petition. Ssegawa, also proprietor of Lugogo Centre Court Sports Club, pointed out in the petition that the ULTA executive’s two-year term expired in February.

“Their term of office ended in February, they are in office illegally,” Ssegawa told journalists before presenting the petition.

In response, ULTA chairman Cedric Babu said the executive had decided to stay in office longer to organise elections.

The polls will be held on April 20 with Babu and Ssegawa as the only two candidates present so far.

“It was not my decision to stay on, it was made by the executive,” Babu hinted.
