The chief of defence forces Gen. Aronda Nyakairima has lost two bodyguards in a fatal road accident.

Four other soldiers were also seriously injured according to details emerging from the Wednesday morning accident.

The West Nile region army spokesman Lt. Mark Mutono identified the deceased soldiers as Lance corporal Herbert Mwesigye and Lance corporal John Bosco Muganzi.

While Mwesigye died on the spot, Muganzi was rushed to Arua hospital and later to Kampala where he died.

The accident happened at around 7:00 am at a corner near Okollo bridge in Arua district when the front tire of one of the vehicles in the CDF’s convoy burst, causing the car to overturn several times.

Mutono said the soldiers were going to Arua airfield to receive Aronda who was by then traveling by air from Kampala to meet military officers in the district.

The other injured soldiers have also been flown to Kampala for further treatment.

Mourning the fallen soldiers, Mutono said: “it is unfortunate that we have lost our colleagues."
