April 27: UABF elections

UGANDA Olympic Committee vice president Dennis Galabuzi is optimistic that the power struggles that have crippled the Uganda Boxing Federation (UBF) over the last couple of years will be resolved after the elections on April 27.

Galabuzi, who chairs the UBF constitution review committee, stated yesterday that a lasting solution will be achieved, particularly because the rival factions involved in the previous wrangles had also agreed on the road map that would usher in new leaders.

Factions led by Dr. Ntege Ssengendo and Godfrey Nyakana endorsed the constitution drafted for them by International Boxing Association (IBA) and agreed on the election date.

David Kyambadde represented the Ntege faction in the meeting at Lugogo on Wednesday that also had National Council of Sports general secretary Jasper Aligawesa.

Kyambadde later pointed: “We have agreed on the way forward. I only pray for everything to go smoothly and we have an agreeable leadership in place.”

Following the agreement, all individuals interested in contesting positions on the UBF executive will be nominated on April 5.
