WORLD cricket body ICC requires its Ugandan affiliate UCA to submit, not later than today, its preliminary squad for the World Cricket League Division 3 in Bermuda.

By press time yesterday, UCA had not yet confirmed whether Khaalid Moothsamy and Shaaiq Chowdry will be part of the 18- man line-up. UCA want to add Moothosamy, 27, and Chowdry, 28, to the national team for the vital April 28 - May 5 event but official clearance from the Ministry of Internal Affairs has been slowed down by the pair’s imprecise links to Uganda.

Moothasamy and Chowdry are born and raised in South Africa and England respectively.

The Ministry has asked for “confirmation of links to Uganda”, as UCA CEO Justin Ligyalingi put it, but the verification has dragged too long and the national selectors may find themselves deprived of two mature heads that would have lifted the quality of the side in an intense tournament.

Ligyalingi told New Vision Sport ahead of last month’s ICC Africa Division 1 T20 Championship in Kampala that: “Both players have linkages to Uganda through their parents.”
