Rwanda set for leadership retreat

Rwandan leaders are gathered ahead of a three-day retreat that seeks to reflect on the ups and downs over the past year.

Rwanda’s local leaders are gathered at Gabiro School of Infantry in the Eastern Province for the 10th National Leadership Retreat that opens on Thursday.

Held annually, the three-day (March 28-30) retreat brings together leaders from the central to local government.
 
The objective is to reflect on the achievements and challenges over the past year as well as set the priorities of the new year, according to Rwanda’s daily, The New Times.

The newspaper quoted the Minister in Charge of Cabinet Affairs, Protais Musoni, saying that  delegates will this year the focus on effective implementation of the goals that are outlined in the ambitious five-year economic agenda, the Economic Development Poverty Reduction Strategy II launched last year.

The target is to ensure that the economy grows by an average 11.5 per cent during the implementation period of this strategy, leapfrogging the average 8.2 per cent growth registered over the last decade.

The high-level gathering has attracted  about 300 leaders .

The newspaper also stated that last year’s retreat held in Rwanda Military Academy, Gako, in Bugesera emphasised on priority areas namely, improving service delivery, job creation, agricultural transformation and energy.
