LivingStone International University (LIU) currently located at Namakwekwe in Mbale town opened its doors with 33 pioneer students in January 2012 before admitting more 20 in August to study bachelor degree programmes in Christian Ministry, Business Administration, Communications and Media Technology.

One year later, the university has introduced a bachelor of science degree programme in Information and Communications Technology (ICT) and a diploma programme in Christian Ministry.

The opening of LIU in Mbale was the fruit of about ten years of development by a partnership of Christians in Uganda who work under the authority of New Testament Churches of Christ Limited (NTCC) that has been recognized by the Non- Government Organizations Board for over twenty years.

On December 19, 2008, the Uganda National Council for Higher Education (NCHE) granted a Letter of Interim Authority to LivingStone International University and in March last year, the university received a Provisional License to operate as a private university.

Based on this positive development, LivingStone International University is proud to operate as an independent institution in Uganda partnered with established universities in the United Kingdom and USA.

The university chancellor Shawn Tyler says higher education in eastern Uganda is under-served and therefore the opening of LIU will open opportunities to thousands of students who roll out of post-primary schools and the working class who want to pursue further studies.

“LivingStone International University provides quality programmes to students while at the same time enabling students to demonstrate their ability to produce while they learn,” the chancellor says.

The university envisions the creation of economic partnerships with a variety of businesses through which it will offer real world internships to its students embedded within their courses of study.

Each programme offered at the university will include hands -on and technical education with strong emphasis on providing internships and mentoring programmes.

Mentoring of students is an important component of imparting practical skills into a graduate so that they not depend on lecture room theories and book knowledge alone.

The university degree courses will take four years divided into eight semesters so that immediately upon graduation, students will qualify for post graduate studies in Uganda or abroad without the need for remedial courses.

All programmes at the university will make use of current cutting edge technology like up to date computers, electronic text books and state-ofthe-art audio and video production equipment in partnership with Good News Productions International studios.

Within the five years of opening, LIU hopes to offer many more programs including but not limited to agriculture, engineering, education and computer science

LivingStone International University will strive for excellence because we “work as for the Lord, who does all things well” (Mark 7:37). LIU aims to produce graduates who are the best at what they do, who persevere under pressure and trial, and who are ethically and morally grounded in the ways of God.

LivingStone university will emphasize academic achievement together with character formation to ensure that students become successful and productive citizens.

The university’s vision of nation building means that LIU must become the servant of all: government, business and industry, education, health services, town, village, and church. And so, while being technologically advanced and academically cutting edge, the student body will nevertheless measure its success by how well it uses its knowledge and training to serve the poor, the under developed, and the marginalized members of society.

In its faculty and administration, LIU strives for unity by hiring those who can affirm the core of the common faith. However, the university will not discriminate on the basis of religion for student admission. In fact, the aim is to have a significant percentage of students from all the church groups represented in East Africa.

LIU will practice Christian hospitality by respectfully admitting students from other faiths such as: Muslim, Hindu, and African Traditional Religions.

Applicants for degree programmes should hold one of these three qualifications: a UCE & UACE certificate with at least two principle passes; a diploma from a recognized institution of higher learning; or a pass in mature age examination. International applicants must have qualifications that are recognized for University entry in their respective countries.

LivingStone International University exists to transform Africa through quality Christ-centered higher education. LIU’s vision is to develop ethical, empowered, and employable Christians in every sector of African society.

Plans are being finalised for the university to start construction works in five phases of its permanent campus on a 56 acre land at Kamonkoli along Mbale- Tirinyi highway which will accommodate up to 4000 students.
