HEATHENS' 24-7 victory over D’Mark Kobs didn’t only hand them the Nile Special Premier Rugby League first round unbeaten record but also earned them the Lions Pride Cup trophy.
The trophy is competed for between the two clubs whenever they meet in the league and the Uganda Cup.
Bishop Onen scored a try, penalty and conversion to give Heathens a 10-0 half time lead but Kobs replied in the second half with a try and conversion through Joseph Aredo to close the gap to 10-7.
This didn’t go down well with Heathens as they unleashed their lethal weapon with hard tackling rugby and eventually Asuman Mugerwa and Philip Wokorach added a try each and conversions by Jasper Ochan and Wokorach to end the game 27-7.
“The result doesn’t reflect the true game played on pitch just because of two errors in kicking that can’t be explained, but our main focus is the semi-final against Buffaloes before we plan for a final,” Mudoola stated.
“It was a game worth watching and I’m confident the mammoth ground that turned up today witnessed real rugby,” Pirates former Director of Rugby Godwin Kayangwe stated.
Heathens top the table with 33 points followed by Buffaloes on 27 points while Kobs and Pirates are third and fourth respectively.
