Uganda honours great women with medal

Twenty seven current and former women MPs have been honoured with medals at the ongoing International women''s Day celebration in Nakasongola district.

Twenty-seven current and former woman Members of Parliament have been honoured with medals at the ongoing International Women's Day celebration in Nakasongola district.


The women leaders were rewarded for their contribution towards the women's movement In Uganda.

The 27 include the First Lady, Janet Museveni, who is also the Minister for Karamoja and MP Ruhaama and the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga.

Others are former vice president, Dr Specioza Wandera Kazibwe, state minister for water, Betty Bigombe, state minister for fisheries, Ruth Nankabirwa, Margaret Baba Diri,Grace Akello, Rhoda Kalema and Joyce Mpanga.

MPs from the opposition honoured are the chairperson UWOPA, Betty Amongi, Alice Alaso, Nabillah Naggayi, and Salamu Musumba.

Uganda celebrates the day under the theme "The Gender Agenda: Connecting Grassroots Women to Development" and President Yoweri Museveni is the Chief Guest at the celebrations.
