PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has appointed a committee to organise the forthcoming National Conference meeting of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

The conference is scheduled to take place on December 15 at Mandela National Stadium. It will be preceded by meetings of the Central Executive Committee and the National Executive Council on December 13, and 14, respectively.

The President, in a letter dated November 3, appointed the acting NRM secretary general, Dorothy Hyuha, as chairperson of the organising committee that will prepare for the meetings.

Hyuha is deputized by the minister without portfolio (in charge of general duties), Richard Todwong.

NRM’s deputy spokesperson and executive director of the Uganda Media Centre, Ofwono Opondo confirmed the President’s directive on Thursday.

On October 25, the President, who is the NRM party’s chairperson, issued a notice summoning members to the party’s national conference.

The party earlier this week issued another notice, soliciting views from party members on the proposed amendments to the party’s constitution.

The NRM is also expected to discuss the administration of the party’s secretariat and the position of secretary general.

Former prime minister and secretary general Amama Mbabazi went on leave until December 31 following allegations that he was mobilising to stand for presidency.

Mbabazi has denied the allegations but not ruled out his candidature.

The party has said Mbabazi, who is also the MP for Kinkizi West, will be free to attend the national conference since he is a member.
