ENTEBBE - Beach Soccer Uganda have handed Galacticals BSC goalkeeper Peter Kyalimpa a one-year ban for raining blows on a referee during their derby with Braza Braza at Lido Beach recently.

Referee Ali Mwebe had under-estimated the highly charged environment at the game when he dismissed Kyalimpa for using abusive language. The player charged and roughed him up before Police and Lido Beach staff in Entebbe intervened.

However, the match failed to restart after another Galacticals player Khassim Nasiri was booked for the second time for time wasting and thus red carded when Galacticals were trailing 2-1.

Nasiri refused to vacate the pitch and the match aborted.

“I sent off Kyalimpa for using abusive language and he resorted to physically attacking me. We called off the match and I wrote a report to the competition and disciplinary committees,” Mwebe explained when contacted.

The league boss Anthony Tumwesigye confirmed that the player was punished.

“Much as we understand the tension that came with the derby, there was no excuse to fight and slap a referee. Our rules say that such a player should be banned for 365 days. We wanted to send a signal to those who may want to do the same,” Tumwesigye said.

Three of the day’s fixtures did not kick off because Multitech and Uhuru did not turn up for matches involving Bwanika, Zai Plaza and Richmond Strikers.

The ref later sent off another Galacticals player Khassim Nasiri, igniting more rage from the players.


The players tried to cool the situation before the Braza Braza v Galacticals game was aborted.
