HAVING enjoyed the thrill of a hard fought victory and basked in the limelight at the glamourous Nile Special USPA Awards night, retirement is the last thing on London Olympic gold medalist Stephen Kiprotich’s mind.

Kiprotich was named 2012 USPA Sportsman of the Year at the Annual Sports Awards Gala at Imperial Royale Hotel on Saturday.

“It is too early to even think of retiring. I would be happy to run for may be another 15 years to win more medals and awards like this,” Kiprotich remarked after receiving the award at a glamourous awards night on Saturday.

Kiprotich beat national motor rally champion Jas Mangat and World Boxing Council (WBC) International light heavyweight champion Joseph Lubega to the award sponsored by Nile Breweries.

The Motocross national team won the Team of the year award.  The team captained by Arthur Blick beat 2011/2012 Super League champion Express F.C, Elgon Cup holders Rugby Cranes and East Africa Cricket Premier league champions Rwenzori Warriors.

Former world amateur and World Boxing Council (WBA) International Junior Middleweight champion Ayuba Kalule picked up the Legendary Award amidst a standing ovation at the plush ceremony attended by 500 guests from the sports fraternity.

Outstanding sports personalities in the various disciplines were rewarded for their performance in 2012.
