The Uganda Premier League has ruled in SC Villa’s favour following their encounter with Express that aborted last week because of crowd violence.

“This is to inform you that the UPL has considered match officials’ reports and decided that Express FC loses the match by forfeiture (3-0).

Therefore, SC Villa has been awarded 3 points and 3 goals,” reads a press release issued by league CEO Bernard Bainamani.

Bainamani explained that the decision was taken in accordance with Article 32(1) of FUFA Competitions Rules.

UPL states that the match reports indicate that the fans of the visiting team consistently threw stones on the field of play in Mityana.

“Express FC fans started throwing stones in the 31st minute after SC Villa had scored, after they scored the second goal the stone throwing intensified,” reads Bainamani’s statement in part.

The report states that the chaos culminated into firing of tear gas forcing the referee to abandon the match in the 77th minute of play.

There are however conflicting reports about the exact time the match was abandoned.

Earlier UPL reported that the match was abandoned in the 85th minute.

Bainamani has advised any party that feels unfairly treated to appeal.
