Kabaka Ronald Mutebi has eulogised the fallen businessman, James Mulwana, as a key philanthropist, who never discriminated against anyone.

Kabaka Ronald Mutebi has eulogised businessman James Mulwana, who passed on earlier this week, as a key philanthropist, who never discriminated against anyone.

In a speech delivered by Prince David Wasajja, the Kabaka said Mulwana was one of the main pillars that have supported Buganda Kingdom over the years.

“Mulwana’s humility, love for his kingdom and hard work made him a strong person in Buganda and we would consult him on several occasions,” the Kabaka said,

He added: “A few months back, he hosted us at his farm in Busunju and he showed us love. It is sad he has gone at a time when we wanted him most.”

Mulwana is credited for the growth of Buganda when he spearheaded the rehabilitation of Twekobe, the Kabaka’s main palace in Mengo, Kampala.

He also chaired the organising committee ofKabaka’s wedding in 2000 besides being the first chairman of the Buganda Land Board for eight years.

He was also a member on various committees of the kingdom’s development projects.

Buganda Katikkiro (premier) Eng. J.B. Walusimbi said Mulwana was a torch, not only for the kingdom, but also the entire country.

“He was Uganda’s torch in business, religion, agriculture and everything he did. Although he was an Anglican, Mulwana supported the Catholic and Muslim religions alike,” Walusimbi said.

He added that although he was out of active politics, Mulwana played better politics through advising leaders on good directions.

Walusimbi recalled the day Mulwana telephoned him as soon as he was announced Katikkiro, warning him against Mengo saboteurs.

“He said it was not an easy job because most of my predecessors, instead of being thanked, had been severely abused by fellow Baganda,” Walusimbi reminisced.

“He encouraged me to do whatever I feel is good for the development of the kingdom and turn a deaf ear to saboteurs.”
