Kashaka wins independence golf tornament

Davis Kashaka returned 34 stable ford points to win the Pepsi Independence day golf tournament at Palm Valley Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

Davis Kashaka returned 34 stable ford points to win the Pepsi Independence day golf tournament at Palm Valley Golf and Country Club on Thursday.

Playing off handicap 2 the Rwandan based golfers’ experience prevailed as he beat over 100 golfers to the top prizes of a 39 inch full HD LED flat screen, a 140 liters fridge, garden chairs and a trophy.

“It was all about composure, I decided just to keep the ball on the fairway and prayed that I get pars on hole-number 1 and 10 which I achieved, actually they were the only pars I got in the entire game. I dedicate this trophy to my late mum who passed on two weeks ago,” Hashaka told golfers at the prize ceremony.

Kampala based golfer Robinson Lutwama who was beaten to the top prize on count-back claimed the group A prizes with Isaac Kisembo and Solomon Kego finishing as first and second runners up respectively.

Flavia Namakula (30pts) who beat Evelyn Asiimwe (29pts) by a point was the best lady performer in the ladies group A while Samalie Naikomba (24pts) beat visiting golfer Groot Arls from the Netherlands on count-back to claim the group B prizes.

Jadu Patel and Paul Nsereko beat Joseph Bagabo and Joseph Nkurunziza to the group B and C accolades respectively.

Earlier on Vincent Byamukama had bagged the biggest share of sh12m in the professional category.

Musician, Jose Chameleon lightened up the 19th hole prompting Pepsi Chairman Amos Nzeyi and Ministers Ruth Nankabirwa and John Byabagambi together with other golfers into a dance fest.

Chief guest Nankabiwa urged the public sector to continue investing in sports and the entertainment industry.

The annual one-day tournament was sponsored by Pepsi, ICEA, Aqua Sipi and Stanbic bank.
