Calamities on the road

March 8. Three people died and five were injured in an accident at Ala River Bridge vuwa sub county in Arua district.

March 10. Kyenjojo Woman MP, Linda Timbigamba and Jennifer Majungu from Rwenzori were involved in a road accident at Kikona in Mubende town council on the Kampala-Fort Portal road.

March 16. Seven people died when two trailers heading to Kasese district rammed into each other on the Mbarara Fort Portal road.

March 26. 14 passengers were injured when the taxi they were travelling in lost control and plunged into Subway restaurant no deaths were reported.

April 03. Palm Sunday, 20 traders died and 50 others injured in a motor accident at Iziru trading centre, Buyengo sub county in Jinja district.

June 10. Dr. Isaiah Karenzi, the TASO programmes officer, died and six others were injured in a road accident at Rwitabaganda, Buyanja sub county, Rukugiri district.

June 18. Four policemen died in a failed attempt to rescue mob justice victim. The policemen died when the vehicle in which they were traveling collided with a lorry at Kitubulu near Entebbe town.

July 13. Over 20 S4 candidates of St Lawrence SS in Sonde got injured in an accident in Mabira on Kampala-Jinja highway. They were travelling back from a field trip, when their bus overturned.

July 29. Prisca Mashengyero Tembo, wife to state minister for ICT, Nyombi Tembo, died. Mashengyero’s vehicle crashed at Bwebajja that night.

August 1. Four family members died in an accident along the Masaka-Kampala highway and were all buried in Kigunga village in Mukono.

August 3. The Woman Member of Parliament for Rubabo, Paula Turyahikayo and her sister Dinah Karwemera got involved in an accident at Kiborogota, 13km from Rukungiri town. Four other people died on spot in the accident.

August 12. Seven soldiers of the UPDF perished in a fatal helicopter crash in Kenya. The three Mi-24 choppers that crashed were part of a fleet of four that left Soroti enroute for Somalia.

August 23. Janet Florence Aguti, the acting assistant commissioner for teacher education in Kampala, her relatives Christine Akwi, Margaret Icoroti and Daniel Okedi died on spot when the vehicle they were travburst into flames along Soroti-Katakwi road. They were burnt beyond recognition

September 13. Road accident paralysed traffic at Owen Falls Bridge on a Saturday afternoon following an accident involving three vehicles.

September 18. Fourty people were injured in a bus accident at Malongo, along Masaka-Mbarara road, in Rwengo bus, swerved off the road, overturned and burst into flames.

October 1. Five mourners were killed, 21 injured in a road accident. They were returning from a burial when their omnibus collided head-on with a truck in Nyakisharara along Mbarara-Ibanda highway.

October 2. A speeding taxi killed a Saracen employee and another person lost his leg when a trailer rammed into their motorcycle.

October 5. Two of Lt. Gen Kale Kayihura’s security detail advance team perished in a fatal accident in Kabale district. They were heading to Kisoro in south-western Uganda. The accident occurred at Kanaba gap along Kabale-Kisoro Road. The assistant superintendent of Police, Alex Nuwagaba, was one of those killed.

October 14. Three people were confirmed dead and dozens injured in an accident involving a bus and a ministry of health vehicle along the Mbarara-Masaka highway in Kiruhura district. The two vehicles are said to have collided head-on at Kanyaryeru at around 3pm. The bus belonging to Jussy Company, was headed for Kampala.

October 19.
An accident in Mabira forest along the Kampala-Jinja Highway claimed six live. Seven others were admitted in critical condition at Mulago and Kawolo hospitals.

November 1. Three people died instantly when an estate car they were travelling in along the Gulu-Kampala highway collided with a Kenyan registered truck.

November 6.
Two people died on the spot while 28 got injured following a bus accident at Kyapa-Kiruhura on Mbarara-Masaka Highway.

November 17.
