Roko aims to build lasting structures

Roko Construction has constructed commercial and Government buildings in Uganda. These include Crested Towers, Rwenzori Courts, the Danish Embassy, Centenary Bank, Bank of Uganda, Metro Uganda and the Ministry of Finance.  

The company operates in other countries such as DRC Congo, Rwanda and South Sudan. No wonder Freedom City contractors requested Roko to supply some of the materials.  

“We supplied the ready mix concrete for the construction of the mall,’’ says Rishitosh Kabra, the commercial manager at Roko Construction Ltd. The Company has a modern computer-controlled batching plant with a capacity of approximately 8,000 cubic metres per month.

Located at Nasser Lane in the city centre, the plant is strategically located to ensure prompt and smooth delivery of concrete to the sites. Logistics of Ready Mix Concrete delivery is managed through efficient utilisation of its large fleet of transit mixers as well as concrete pumps.

The construction company also offers other services which include aluminum fabrication, metal fabrication and welding, carpentry and joinery, shuttering and scaffolding, mechanical works and electrical works.

Some materials are produced locally and from the preferential trade area wherever possible. Imports are facilitated by Roko’s association with the SAI Trading Company in Europe. Being one of the largest construction companies in Uganda, Roko always gets lucrative construction contracts.

However, Kabra says the company does not boast in its being larger but rather in the quality of services it offers to its clientele. Additionally, the company is selfsufficient in the majority of construction disciplines and places great emphasis on training its technicians and craftsmen to produce an exceptionally high standard of workmanship.

Established in 1969, Roko was formed by two partners; the late Max Rohrer and Rainer Kohler, by combining the first two letters of their surnames to make Roko. By then, there was a great need for Uganda to tap into quality construction since the country lacked quality contractors.

When Roko came into the picture, it was able to help Uganda realise her dream of having magnificent buildings without importing labour from other countries. Kabra says Uganda has grown giving enormous opportunity for the construction business.

Today, many people and companies are in need of the construction services, which means Roko does better than it did in the past.
