KAMPALA - A 70-year-old pensioner died after a bodaboda [motor] cyclist knocked him while on his way to the Ministry of Public Service.

Celestine Kyazze, a resident of Semuto Nkuzimbire in Nakaseke district and a retired head teacher at Nakigulube Primary School in Luwero, was heading to the ministry on Tuesday for his pension.true

Speaking in an interview at Mulago Hospital, the deceased’s son Kigula Yiga said that his father complained of delayed pension payments and that the ministry’s officials promised him that the money would be deposited on his account, but all in vain.

“My dad [pictured right] left his home in Semuto at around 6:30am on Tuesday. The taxi dropped him in town and as he was heading to the ministry of public service, a speeding bodaboda knocked him. He was then rushed to Mulago Hospital for treatment,” Kigula said.

Kigula said before the father’s death, he complained of headache and it is suspected he had internal bleeding. He was treated, but later on died. His body is still at Mulago’s mortuary. The cyclist has not been traced.

Kyazze taught at Nkuzongere Church of Uganda Primary School in the early 1990s and thereafter, joined Nakigulube Primary School as a head teacher. He retired in 2000.

At the time of his death, his last born Francis Bwayise, had dropped out of university for lack of tuition fees. “Dad wanted his son to go back to school and that is why he wanted his package,” Kigula said.
