The Uganda business fraternity in South Sudan is yet again mourning the senseless and cruel murder of a bodaboda cyclist.

Traders operating from Jebere Market have been engaged in running battles with Police protesting the murder of Moses Baguma.

Salif Yiga, a colleague, said Baguma was riding a motorcycle today (Thursday) morning when he bypassed a policeman. Because it was still dusk Baguma had on lights and as he passed by the policeman they flashed in his face.

Salif says when Baguma passed; the policeman turned and shot him in the back in an unprovoked senseless attack.

“Once Baguma’s lights shone in the policeman’s face he turned and shot him in the back killing him on spot,” Yiga told Bukedde newspaper.

He added that angry traders took to the streets and started protesting his death as the Police retaliated by whipping them.

Baguma’s body was taken to Juba Hospital.

Henry Galabuzi, another bodaboda cyclist who operates in the same town said Sudanese mistreat them and yet the Police don’t not help them once they report these cases. He said instead they persecute those who report such cases.

Fredrick Sennoga, the chairman Joint Action for Redemption of Ugandan Traders in South Sudan, said they are trying to cooperate with the Central Equatorial Police boss, Maj. Gen. Ibrahim to restore order.

He urged Ugandans to be calm as the Police there does its job otherwise they would only be inviting more fury from the Sudanese.
