Police are holding a security guard attached to Stanbic bank Kabale branch over theft allegations.

It is alleged that on the November 8, Geoffrey Kategaya, 29, stole an ATM VISA card from Jerica Rugihe, 50, of Rushaki village, Southern division in Kabale Municipality.

According to the Police spokesperson for Kigezi region, Elly Maate, Rugihe had gone to withdraw money at Stanbic bank where she found Kategaya on duty and requested him to assist her withdraw with it with an ATM VISA card.

After he withdrew sh550,000 for her, he exchanged the cards, and later I the afternoon withdrew sh150,000 from Rugihe`s account.

On November 9, 2012, he went to Barclays bank Kabale branch with the same card and withdrew sh700,000 and the next day withdrew more sh700,000.

Maate said that Kategaya thereafter dumped the card after he had withdrawn sh2,250,000 altogether.

When Rugihe went to the bank on November 28, her card was withheld because it was not genuine.

On investigation, Police together with bank officials found out that Kategaya had been captured by Barclays bank`s CCTV camera withdrawing money hence arrested on the next day.

Maate said that Kategaya will be taken to the courts of law to answer the charges accordingly after the investigations are complete.
