KAMPALA - Cranes first choice goalkeeper Abbey Dhaira could be out of the on-going CECAFA Tusker Cup for at least the rest of the group stage matches.

By press time on Sunday Uganda Cranes officials, who were waiting for the medical report at Kampala Hospital said that the player's immediate return to the posts was 'doubtful'.

The towering goalkeeper collided with Kenyan striker Benerd Wanyama in the second half of the Cranes opening match and injured his left eye. He was rushed to the clinic where he was admitted for the night and then taken for scan in the hospital.

Cranes coach Bobby Williamson said that Hamza Muwonge will take charge in Dhaira's absence while Ali Kimera steps in as the second goalkeeper.

On his team's 1-0 victory over Kenya on Saturday, Williamson insisted that the team will improve as they progress and that generally the future is bright for Ugandan footballers.

Asked about his decision to play winger Moses Oloya behind the strikers in the Kenya game, Williamson said that: "Kenya proved difficult to beat. I will keep surprising people with the positioning of the players."

Despite starting on a faulty note, the Harambee stars coach James Nanowa said that he looks forward to get Kenya out of the group stages.

Meanwhile Yonatel Kebede scored the only goal as Ethiopia began their campaign with a 1-0 win over debutantes South Sudan in the opening match on Saturday.
