Bombers confident of medals

NATIONAL boxing team captain Roger Ssemitala is optimistic they will deliver during the World amateur (AIBA) youth boxing championships in Yerevan, Armenia due November 28 to December 7.

In an interview at the Uganda Olympic (UOC) offices in Lugogo before the team left for Armenia yesterday, Ssemitala said that the training they got is enough to win at least a medal during the championship.

"I know we didn't have residential training but what we have got is enough for us to put up a good show. We are eyeing any medal in the championship," Ssemitala said.

The 17-year old won a silver medal in the Inter-cities championship in Nairobi this year where he also emerged best boxer in the championship.

UOC vice-president Denis Galabuzi said that despite lack of funds, they would continue preparing the boys as their focus is on 2014 Commonwealth Games.

"The most important thing is that Uganda is back on the world map. We shall use the little resources available to send at least an athlete in any world event in preparation for Commonwealth and Olympic Games," Galabuzi stated.

The team includes Juma Fazil Kaggwa (light fly), Rodgers Ssentamu (fly), Moses Bob Asiya (light) David Ochan and Emmanuel Nsubuga (bantam).
