KAMPALA - The Police have said they have no report regarding the Kasubi tombs inferno. Instead, the Police said it is the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, which is responsible for the report.

Appearing before the parliamentary committee on human rights, deputy Inspector General of Police Okoth Ochola said, the Government, through the gender ministry, instituted a commission of inquiry to probe the fire.

“There is no way the Police can have ownership of the report. We are all just waiting,” Ochola told the committee.

This was after the committee members and Uganda Human Rights Commission expressed concern over the delay to produce the report on the Kasubi tombs fire and the alleged use of excessive force by security personnel to contain the situation in the aftermath of the fire outbreak.

The committee resolved to summon the gender minister over the progress of the report.

It is now two-and-half years since fire razed the cultural site and no significant work has been done to reconstruct it.
