Uganda is to host the 3rd annual East African Community Secretary General’s forum from September 12 and 13 under the theme “EAC: My Home, My Business.”

Uganda is to host the 3rd annual East African Community Secretary General’s forum from September 12 and 13 under the theme “EAC: My Home, My Business.”


According to a concept note released by the EAC Secretariat, the forum will provide a platform for dialogue for private sector, civil society, academia, media, and other interest groups with the Secretary General on regional integration matters.


At least 200 participants are expected to attend from the five EAC partner states, professional bodies, academia, media and EAC organs and institutions, development partners and other interest groups.


The forum to take place at Imperial Beach Resort Hotel in Entebbe, participants will discuss and make recommendations on status of free movement of labour, persons as well as the right of residence as major indicators of socio-economic integration.


Other issues to discuss will include food security, climate change mitigation and adaptation, access to affordable finance, competitiveness, access to affordable finance and ICT.


“The forum will provide a space to dialogue on opportunities and challenges provided by the EAC integration process as well as share experiences,” read a statement issued by the EAC Secretariat.


The forum is expected to increase participation of the private sector, civil society and other interest groups in EAC policy formulation and decision-making processes; increased sense of ownership of EAC integration by the citizenry  and; increased awareness among citizens on the EAC integration.
