Opposition Democratic Party (DP) has announced plans to exhume the remains of their party Hero, Bendict Kiwanuka as well as erecting a monument in his honor.

Party officials told a weekly press briefing in Kampala Tuesday morning that the two events will be DP’s main golden jubilee celebration activities.

A party Spokesperson Jude Mbabali said that their investigations indicate that late Bendict Kiwanuka was murdered on orders of then President of Uganda Idi Amin and was buried by the army and prisoners at Luzira Prisons in one grave with then Bank of Uganda Governor, Joseph Mubiru at Luzira near Murchison Bay   and the remains of the two are still there to date.

“We have contacted relevant authorities in Government to assist in exhuming the remains as it did with late Shaban Nkutu. We are in touch with senior pathologists to locate exactly where Kiwanuka and Mubiru were buried,” Mbabali said.

According to DP, Kiwanuka was the greatest man in the history of Uganda, basing on his unique political stature anchored on values of honesty, justice and advancing the common good of the nation.

Born on May 8, 1922 in Kisabwa, now Bukomansimbi district, Kiwanuka Uganda’s Prime Minister in the new National Assembly after the 1961 Uganda Constitutional Conference held in London.
