Participants- South Africa, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Kenya, Uganda & Tanzania Uganda may not be expected to win either the Africa Sixes Challenge or the ACA Cup, starting Saturday and Monday respectively in South Africa.

But the national men’s cricket side will be expected to be sharpened by the back-to-back tournaments for next month’s ICC World Cricket League Division 3 Qualifier.

The latter tournament is more important for Uganda’s long-term cricket goals and the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) are glad about the timing of the two new, innovative tournaments that will pit Africa’s top teams against each other.

“The important thing for us is the build-up for the division three tournament,” admitted UCA chief executive Justin Ligyalingi.

“These tournaments will give our players a chance to play against some of the best cricketers in the world.”

Hosts South Africa and Zimbabwe will field elite players in the six-team tournaments that will also include Namibia, Kenya and Tanzania, proof the events are worth their reputation as top continental competitions.

Uganda have selected Frank Nsubuga (captain), Brian Masaba (vice-captain), Roger Mukasa, Arnold Otwan, Daniel Ruyange, Deus Muhumuza and Jonathan Sebanja for the novel Africa Sixes Challenge, which features six aside matches of six overs per inning.

Joining said seven players in Uganda’s ACA Cup squad are Arthur Kyobe, Davis Karashani, Hamu Kayondo, debutant Kenneth Waiswa, Arthur Ziraba, Henry Senyondo and Suleman.

The squad will meet their new technical director, Peter Kirsten for the first time in South Africa.
