Only three out of about 200 club managers in the FUFA North East Regional League have undergone formal managerial training.
Stephen Onyait, the Regional League Committee chairman described the situation as pathetic and urged the coaches to attend a five-day managerial training course that will have 40 participants.
“Coaches at all levels play a crucial role in ensuring that football is an enjoyable experience for everyone, as well as laying the foundation for the development of players,” Onyait said.
Onyait, who is also the North East Regional League Competitions Committee chairman, added that for any club to register for any league, it must have a manager or coach who has undergone a coaching course.
The training, due October 10 at the regional headquarters, will also enable the managers prepare for the 2014/2015 Big League.
“I know that the level of football in the region will improve after the coaching course,” Onyait remarked.
Meanwhile, the FUFA North East Regional Competitions Committee will set in motion the 2014/2015 league on September 24.
A North East Regional official Simon Okello said during a meeting in Soroti that the competition has attracted 20 clubs.
Elsewhere, Onyait made presentations about the tournament’s rules and regulations.
At the meeting, club representatives were told that inspection of facilities to be used for the event will be conducted four days before the event starts. The league has been split in zones A and B.
The top teams will qualify for next season’s Big League.
