Busitema to start medical school

The Chancellor of Busitema University, Prof. Francis Omaswa, says the institution had the ability to address the shortage of human resource in the health sector

PLANS are underway to start a faculty of health sciences at Busitema University.

The Chancellor of Busitema University, Prof. Francis Omaswa, during last week’s graduation, said the institution had the ability to address the shortage of human resource in the health sector. It was the public university’s third graduation ceremony. 

Omaswa said the university had received financial support to set up a campus in Mbale, which would accommodate the faculty of health sciences. The university received the support to start from the Medical Education Partnership Initiative.

“In order for innovative ideas to be translated into useful products, platforms need to be created for interface between ideas and practice sites in fields such industry, agriculture, health facilities,” Omaswa said.

A total of 700 students were awarded certificates, diplomas and degrees in different disciplines taught at the Nagongera, Namasagali, Arapai, Busitema, Mbale, Kaliro, Mbale and Pallisa campuses of the university.
