Uganda got off to a slow start in the East African Golf Challenge that got underway at Entebbe Club on Friday.
Kenya took the early lead with 6.5 points followed by the hosts at 5.5 points in the match play event.
The quick lead already has the Kenyans again seriously eyeing the title they won last year
“Our target was opening with a 4.5 but now that we have two more, it should be easier to retain the title,” said team captain Nelson Simwa.
Uganda was on the other hand left with some serious homework ahead of the weekend rounds. “We shall go back and re-organise. We should be much better tomorrow [Saturday],” promised Uganda’s captain Phillip Kasozi.
Action continued on Saturday with the foursomes and the four-ball-better-ball rounds on 36 holes. Action ends with the singles on Sunday.
Last year Uganda dominated proceedings for three days before losing out to Kenya by half a point at the Great Rift Valley Lodge and Golf Resort in Naivasha.
Uganda Breweries through their luxury whisky portfolios (Johnnie Walker) have bankrolled the event to a tune of sh200m.
