KAMPALA - Today marks the beginning of ten days of Uganda's enumeration exercise and the Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) has warned the census enumerators against possible rapists.

The UBOS executive director, Dr. Ben Mungyereza, reminded the enumerators that entering peoples’ houses is not a must during the exercise.

He observed that some criminals may take advantage of the much anticipated National Population and Housing census to commit crimes against enumerators.

“We would like to inform the enumerators to beware of rapists who may take advantage of the situation and rape them.

Entering one’s house is not a must and if someone welcomes you to their house do not just enter,” Mungyereza said.

Addressing a press conference at Media Center in Kampala Wednesday, the state minister for finance in charge of planning, Matia Kasaija, asked the male enumerators to also beware of female rapists. “Even men need to be careful because they can also be raped,” he added.

Kasaija and Mungyereza were answering questions from journalists ahead of the census exercise. The enumerators will be visiting peoples’ homes for enumeration strictly between 7:00am to 6:00pm.
