Police in Mbarara are investigating reports that some members of various opposition parties had planned to organise a demonstration in Mbarara town today Tuesday similar to that held in Kampala on Monday.

This comes after yet unknown persons blocked Mbarara-Kabale road and burnt vehicle tyres at Ruti on Tuesday morning.

Heavily armed anti riot Police rushed to the scene but found no one there. They put out the fire using water cannons and later cleared the road to ease traffic flow.

Police now suspect that this could have been an act by some members of opposition parties who wanted to stage a demonstration.

Dickens Bindeeba, the District Police Commander Mbarara, said they are not going to allow any illegal demonstrations in the town and have deployed heavily to avert any sinister plans.
