The Ministry of Education has defended its officials who are under investigation over the embezzlement of sh375b meant for training of post-primary school teachers countrywide.

In a press conference at the Media Centre yesterday, state minister Charles Bakkabulindi said the Police investigation is misplaced and its methodology flawed.

He said no funds were lost. He also attacked the media, saying they are being used to malign education officials.

Citing the case of John Mary Agaba whom the Police have summoned to CID, Bakkabulindi wondered how he could have stolen funds that were never released.

He said the funds that were released were much less than the ones quoted in the papers and that even then, the money was properly used.

Bakkabulindi was flanked by the permanent secretary of education, Francis Xavier Lubanga and two other officials of the Ministry of Education.

According to Bakkabulindi and Lubanga, Agaba is neither the contract manager nor contract coordinator and therefore could never have touched the said monies
