Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party presidential contender Rt. Major General Mugisha Muntu has said he parted ways with the NRM party in 2004 over the lifting of the two-term presidential limit.

Muntu was addressing FDC delegates from Masindi, Kiryandongo and Buliisa districts on Monday at Kijura in Masindi district.

He said he told President Yoweri Museveni not to change the Constitution to allow him stand for an open term but he ignored his advice. Muntu said when he left the party he did not quarrel with any one.

Muntu is one of the three candidates seeking to replace Dr Kizza Besigye during an election scheduled for November 22, when the party will hold a delegates conference.

Others in the race are Geoffrey Ekanya the Tororo municipality MP and Nandala Mafabi, the leader of Opposition in Parliament.

Muntu, who is also the party secretary for mobilization said people need to see the manner in which he campaigns.

“Even when I am under attack I don't respond because I know if I was to respond in a similar way we would break the party and everything I have done since the beginning of this party is to keep it strong to give it credibility,” he added.

He refuted reports that he had one hand in FDC and another one in the ruling NRM.
“There is no way I can have one hand in FDC and another one in NRM that would not be me Muntu,” he said.
He said those linking him to NRM have their own agenda which he does not understand as an individual.
