The local soccer federation has hiked charges for the final 2013 Nations Cup qualifier between the Uganda Cranes and Zambia’s Chipolopolo.

The fares have gone up more than double for the October 13 do-or-die tie at the Mandela National Stadium, Namboole.

Fans in the ordinary stands will have to part with sh40000 and those who will seek luxury in the pavillion must pay sh75000 for access.

A new category tickets, the gold ticket, will go for sh120,000.

FUFA chairman in charge of marketing Rogers Byamukama said that the fares were a reflection of the magnitude of the game.

The charges are also meant to regulate an influx of fans for the eagerly anticipated match.

“The ticket prices are proportional to the magnitude of the match. All tickets will be clearly marked to enable easy access. The gold ticket holders will be accorded hospitality like parking space (for their vehicles) among others,” Byamukama explained at FUFA House on Thursday.

After two days of deliberations, Namboole management has settled for sh1500 per ticket as their share — bringing the total to sh630m considering 42,000 tickets.

Unlike the last time when FUFA and Namboole had a bitter fight over how they would share the gate collection, Byamukama said it is all now settled.

According to FUFA, they expect to print 1200 gold tickets, 6800 VIP (pavillion) and 34000 ordinary tickets that should be able to fetch a record sh2bn from the match.

FUFA partners in Cranes promotion, MTN, NIC and Nile Breweries all pledged to ensure the best environment for the team to qualify for the 2013 finals in South Africa.

The Cranes are already training for the game for which a two-goal margin victory will ensure their return to the Africa top soccer showpiece.

The Ugandans went down 1-0 in Ndola this month courtesy of a captain Chris Katongo strike.

The Cranes enter residential camp one week from now on September 30.
