Rising Stars promise fire in Gabon

Uganda’s Airtel Rising Stars team has promised to register good results on the international stage.


The team will compete in the Airtel Rising Stars African Championships due in Gabon later this month. Uganda’s players said that they are ready to take on the other youngsters in the Gabon event.

The players had their first training session at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru. Later,the team handled by coach Frank Anyau, was involved in a friendly with a team from Walukuba.

Anyau’s team drew 2-2 with Super League side BIDCO FC in another game. Anyau said he is preparing the boys to go as far as the final in Gabon.

The coach explained that a number of players in the side were drawn from the national U-17 team.

“The boys are picking up quickly and I have high hopes in them,” Anyau said.

He added, “We promise that we shall get good results.”

The team captain Willy Ochen said that the training has improved him and his colleagues. Another player Steven Okot praised the coach for the fatherly approach in training.

The striker added they have what it takes to shine during the tournament in Gabon.
