Bobi Wine calls for harsh punishment for corrupt officials

Musician, Robert Kyagulanyi aka Bobi Wine has joined the anti-corruption campaign by supporting a move by the Civil Society organization to deny suspects court bail.
“Currently there is a public outcry about corruption and most of the people who steal huge sums of money are granted bail because they can afford to play about with systems in the judiciary,” Kyagulanyi said.
Kyagulanyi made the remarks on Wednesday during the ongoing anti-corruption Caravan that is mobilizing communities to name and shame the ‘thieves’ of public opportunities and resources in Pallisa district.
“Am not only an activist against corruption but also a concerned citizen who cannot just look on as public funds are being swindled,”
Actionaid Programs Director Harriet Gimbo, said the campaign is to mobilize citizens for collective action by helping the public to understand the dangers of corruption towards service delivery and welfare of the citizenry.
The caravan is traversing 15 districts in North-East and Eastern Uganda under the theme, stop the silence; shame the corrupt; fame the good leaders.

She noted that Uganda can achieve equitable, quality and sustained service delivery if technical and political leaders put aside selfish interests to build a society in which all citizens claim fair share of national opportunities and resources.
Gimbo called upon Ugandans to speak out on all forms of corruption in their households, communities and public offices without fear and favour.
The caravan is documenting cases of corruption in the regions for presentation to relevant government authorities and institutions for action.
“In the caravan, the public is also tasked to identify icons of integrity as part of the citizens’ efforts to reward and promote local champions in fighting corruption,” Gimbo said.
The caravan is covering districts of Kotido, Abim, Amuria, Katakwi, Soroti, Kumi, Bukedea and Kapchorwa. Others include; Mbale, Tororo, Pallisa, Kibuku, Budaka, Namutumba and Iganga
