Rain could be the distracting factor to the smooth flow of the second round of the Airtel National Basketball League after it again threatened to force a wash out for the second time on Tuesday.

But this did not stop Vegeterian pulling off a 70-53 win over the Nkumba Marines after.

In the women’s game KCCA Leopards had no respect for the defending champions UCU Lady Canons handing them their second loss of the season with a 58-45 points win.

Vegeterian who are gunning for their first play-off slot were led by Vinnie Jurua who scored a game high 20 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to push them from 9th to 7th position on the log.

Richard Ongom added 19 points and five boards, with Grace Adra adding 13 for the victors who like in their first round encounter that they won 72-48 were far superior to the fading Marines side.

Ramadhan Shaban (18pts), Nyabuto Matoke (12pts) and Chrispus Kilemba (11pts) top scored for the Marines who remain at the bottom of the log with only two wins out of ten thus far.

Former Canons players Peace Proscovia (16pts) and Flavia Oketcho (15pts) top scored for the Leopards with the former adding 18 rebounds to help KCCA consolidate their top of the table position.

The lady Canons ‘big men’ of Purity Odhiambo and Vilma Achieng were restricted to a combined score of 15 points between themselves and despite Achieng outrebounding everyone on the day with 19 boards, Maureen Amoding the other Canon’s dependable player could only manage 9 points, and only scoring one of twelve attempts from three point range (her usual specialty).
