President Yoweri Museveni has said Uganda has high chances of rapid economic development if investors are not delayed by politicians and civil servants.

“Without investment, the economy will not grow. When you delay investors, you do a disservice to the people who could get job opportunities,”Museveni said.

Speaking during the wedding reception of Ismail Mpanga Bbumba and Leila Naluwooza Mukasa at Kampala Serena Hotel on Saturday, the President appealed to Ugandans to appreciate investors and consumers as the two key factors which characterise the development of any modern economy.

The groom is the son of Abbey Bbumba and former minister Saida Bbumba.

According to a release from State House, the President said an investor has the money and knowledge to produce goods and services to supply locally and export, while the consumer provides the market for the produced goods. He asked politicians not to make mistakes in policy formulation an implementation which, he said, could seriously affect economic development. Museveni warned civil servants against corruption.

He said the completion of Bujagali hydropower dam in eastern Uganda and Nyagak mini-hydropower plant in West Nile, among others, would go a long way in enhancing economic development in Uganda.

Museveni told the guests that the wrong plans and decisions of politicians and civil servants contribute to the disruption of economic development and are still a big challenge to the country.

He asked the Ugandans to take the advantage of the prevailing peace and work hard to enhance economic development.

He expressed happiness that young people, like the groom, are getting married because of the prevailing peace in the country which is being consolidated by the national army that is strong enough to defend the sovereignty of the Uganda.

Museveni congratulated the newlywed couple and gave them money worth five Fresian cows as a startup park. He also thanked Bbumba for the good services rendered to the NRM government.

He also thanked former Kampala Mayor Nasser Ntege Sebaggala a senior presidential advisor, who was among the guests, for fighting some groups of people that had nurtured intentions of making Kampala a war zone.

Bbumba thanked the President for giving her a chance to serve in the NRM government. She said she was inspired by President Museveni to join politics because of his activism.
