In a win-or-go-home match for KCCA FC today, they face Burundi’s Atletico in a Group B match up.

KCCA was not only fancied to win this group but the odds were also stacked heavily in their favour to win this year’s CECAFA Club Championship.

However they were beaten by Djibouti’s Telecom in their second match which is by far the biggest upset of this year’s championship.

Telecom are the underdogs of this group. Atletico lost to APR in their group opener but resurrected their chances of qualification to the quarterfinals on Monday by beating Gor Mahia 1-0.

Both teams (KCCA and Atletico) have three points each and KCCA’s loss today will most likely see them knocked out before the quarter final stage.

KCCA plays APR in their last group match while Atletico’s last fixture is against Telecom.

In their match against Gor Mahia, Atletico were solid in defence and they are expected to apply the same tactic against KCCA. They do not have a good offence and they will look to score off the counter attack.

KCCA have a better offence even though they were not at their best against Telecom and Gor Mahia. They can regain some confidence by scoring an early goal.

Their lead strikers Brian Umony and Herman Wasswa looked out of sync against Telecom. Coach George Nsimbe said: “We lost to Telecom because there are a few things that we did not get right in our game but we intend to rectify them in the next one and we are ready to fight for results because we came to win the trophy.”

KCCA captain Saka Mpima told the press, “I started off by winning the FUFA Super Cup and I want to win CECAFA because I believe in my team.”
