JINJA - The family of a four-month old baby who was born with bladder exstrophy and epispadias that makes it difficult for him to pass urine is desperately seeking help for surgery.

Isaac Ngobi was born with a bladder exposed on the outside of the body.

The mother, Zainah Namuyingo, 32, speaking from her residence at Kadaga Road in Munyegera Zone in Buwenge Town Council on Sunday, said the fifth born, her son was born with the defect on April 24, 2014 at Buwenge Health Centre IV.

Ngobi was born weighing three kilograms.

Namuyingo, who used to earn some money from her tailoring business can no longer work because she has to attend to her child full time.

“I am confused about what to do with my son. I can only resign myself to his fate,” Namuyingo said adding that her child was diagnosed with the condition by Dr. Andrew Kaggwa on June 3, 2014 at Mulago Hospital.

She says she was given an appointment for preview which will be on January 15, 2015.

She added that she lost contact with her husband, Samuel Ngobi, who went to Juba in December last year.

Rachael Nangobi, a social worker at the Uganda Network for Empowerment of the Marginalized Child and Youth (NEMACY) said the vice chairperson of Buwenge Town Council Aisha Kagoya called on their helpline 0776131414 in June and reported the case to them.

“We visited the mother and her child but they are in a poor state and need support from well-wishers,” Nangobi said.

As a child rights advocate, Nangobi requested sympathizers to support the child so that it can be operated upon.

“The mother is now trying to raise funds to pay for repeated reconstructive surgery,” Nangobi said.

Good Samaritans can reach out to the mother on 0786165211 or at NEMACY on 0776131414 / 0754131414.
