Police Sunday issued terror alert ahead of the Jubilee celebrations slated for October 9, 2012 and urged Ugandans to be very vigilant.

The Inspector General of Police, Lt. Gen. Kale Kayihura  told a news conference in Kampala that there has been consistent information about a specific terror attack on the country.

On Friday night, police officers travelled to Kenya to get more information about the terror threat after a number of suspected terrorists were arrested in Kenya with explosive vests.

Kayihura said two suspects were arrested following a dawn raid in East Leigh. The raid thwarted an imminent attack by Somali Islamist militants.

Police recovered six suicide bombs, 12 hand grenades, four rifles, four suicide bomb vests, six bullet proof jackets, 40kg of explosive material and 484 bullets along Fourth Avenue in East Leigh, Kenya.
