Rugunda commends outgoing CDC Country director

Health minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, has commended the outgoing Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) country director, Dr. Wuhib Tadesse for his tremendous contribution towards the health services in the Country.

Health minister, Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda, has commended the outgoing Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) country director, Dr. Wuhib Tadesse for his tremendous contribution towards the health services in the Country.
“We have recently seen tremendous increase in number of people on ART; this has more than tripled over the last three years. This was achieved based on data to decide on the programmatic interventions that had highest impact in reducing transmissions and new infections,” he said.
Speaking at a farewell party for Dr. Tadesse at the ministry of health headquarters, Rugunda said some of the interventions included, targeting key populations, intensifying option B+ and also increasing circumcision.
“I also witnessed quite a big number of circumcision sessions in Kibaale district, I was impressed by enthusiasm and great numbers of people coming to get circumcised,” he noted.
CDC provides technical leadership and direct assistance to the Government of Uganda to strengthen public health workforce capacity, health information systems, epidemiology, surveillance, laboratory, and operations research – essential components for strong and sustainable public health systems.
Rugunda further commended Tadesse for providing technical advise adding Uganda is going to emulate a lot from him.
CDC also works through local government and private not-for-profit institutions to provide high-quality HIV prevention care and treatment services throughout Uganda, using a service-delivery model.
Tadesse is optimistic that the next HIV/AIDS Sero- survey will show Uganda back on track.
“I am looking forward to coming back to celebrate with you the elimination of mother to child transmission before 2015,” he said.
