The Inspector General of Police Maj. Gen. Kale Kayihura has said he is happy with the low levels of violence unlike in the previous by-elections.

"I have come here to see that there is no violence, vote rigging and campaigns at polling stations," Kayihura said.

He was addressing residents of Kibibi in Butambala County who mobbed his car upon arrival.

"Be peaceful and observe electoral laws!" Kayihura said.

The residents complained about the several people that had been arrested by police in the area for disrupting the electoral process. Kayihura declined to intervene saying he needs to first patrol the district.

He also said the law and processes instituted by officers on the ground had to continue.

Meanwhile, MPs Isa Kikungwe and Mathias Mpuga were briefly detained by the police for alleged election malpractice. The two recorded statements and were later released.
